Arrive at least 30 minutes prior to away games ...
- Allow enough time for travel, traffic, walking to the field, bathroom stop, etc.
- Allow an additional 15 minutes to put on cleats, shin guards,
etc, if necessary.
Arrive at least 10 minutes before practice to put on cleats,
shin guards, etc.
Come Prepared -
FOCUS on what needs to be done at practices and games - give your coaches your full attention
- listen first and ask questions at the appropriate time
For Games Only - Wear full uniform with shin guards,
cleats, and shirt tucked in, and NO JEWELRY!
For Practices - Wear WHITE (all white is preferred, but mostly white
will do) T-Shirt; bring a ball.
At all times, make sure you have:
- cleats and an extra pair, if available
- shin guards
- wrist / ankle / knee braces and/or wrapping tape
- dry towel and foot powder, if necessary
- rubber bands for hair, if necessary
Always Bring Plenty of WATER. (Coaches will bring ice
packs, wet face cloths, and medical supplies.)
Eat light before games - avoid heavy meals and bring
a snack, if you think you will be hungry.
Before Practice / Game Preparation -
Warm-Up and Prepare as a TEAM:
- Jogging
- Stretching
- Sprints
- Ball Control (passing, trapping, heading)
- Small Sided Scrimmages
- Shooting
- Set Plays (corner kicks, free kicks, throw-ins)
Mental Preparation:
- Concentrate on what needs to be done
- Believe in yourself and your teammates

- Encourage and Support each other

100% Attention to the Game ...
How Does Our Opponent Execute:
- Kickoffs?
- Goal Keeper Kicks, Punts, Roll Outs?
- Set Plays (Corner Kicks, Free Kicks, Goal Kicks, Throw-Ins)?
How Does Our Opponent Attack:
- Mostly on the ground, air, or both?
- Short Passes, Long Passes, Crossing the Field?
- On our left / right side or down the middle?
- What are THEIR attacking weaknesses/strengths?
- What are OUR attacking weaknesses/strengths?
How Does Our Opponent Defend:
- Strong/weak keeper / defense / midfield?
- Do they have a flat defense / use an offside trap?
- Do forwards come back and help?
- Is their left defense better than their right side defense?
- What are THEIR defensive weaknesses/strengths?
- What are OUR defensive weaknesses/strengths?
On the Field During the Game -
Captains Take Charge ...
Immediately Prior to the Start of Each Half:
- All players huddle together as a team
- Loudly, but not obnoxiously, say motto in unison on count of 3
- From midfield line, starting players immediately run onto the field in unison and move into position
During Injury or any Referee Time Outs:
- Group together as a team, away from the injured party
- Focus on game issues
- Communicate
After Scoring a Goal:
- Celebrate as a group in our defensive end to avoid an intentional delay of game penalty
- Get back into position before opponent is ready to kick-off
After being Scored Upon:
- Quickly group together as a team
- Reinforce team intensity, focus, enthusiasm and determination to succeed
- Don't criticize unless you are perfect
- Accept responsibility when you are less than perfect
If We Are Behind in the Second Half:
- Immediate retrieve the ball after own goals and place on center line to save time
- Chase missed goal shots (whether we / they missed) and place ball on 6 yard line for goal kick
- Save any time we can on any restart
If We are Ahead in the Second Half:
- Kill as much time as possible without incurring a delay of game penalty
- When clearing the ball out of bounds, make sure it is very far out of bounds
After the Game -
Help move equipment out to neutral area, away from the teams playing the next game
Pickup any trash you or others may have left
Group together for team meeting - plan on 15
minutes minimum
